Toddler and newborn photos

Getting toddler and newborn photos together

I met Amber at her home a few days after her baby Isla had been born to photograph them in their brand new home. It was so fun capturing this family of four. Isla had a three-year-old older brother who was full of energy and insistent on showing me all his toys. Including dressing up in a pirate eye patch. But we all went with the flow of it and got some great photos of the four of them together. And some lovely toddler and newborn photos too (which might have involved him climbing into the cot with Isla!)

Here’s a little bit of Amber’s story:

The moment my babies were placed in my arms was the moment my heart grew so much bigger. I never knew love like this before I had my two children.

My labour was far from enjoyable. I went into the hospital at 38+5 to have a checkup, they put the monitors on my belly and after 4 hours of being hooked up the doctor came and spoke to me. They said that I need to be induced today as my baby had reduced movements and it was safer for her to be out rather than go to 40 weeks. I was admitted to the hospital that night. I had to have a lot of blood tests and when the results came back I was diagnosed with cholestasis of the liver. It wasn’t until the following night that I was finally induced. 6 hours later my beautiful baby girl was born.

My partner and I both chose the same name from a heap of names on a phone app, once we discussed the name we knew it was going to be the perfect fit. Isla’s middle name is her great grandmother’s name who sadly never got to meet her.

I planned the nursery from the moment I found out I was expecting a girl. I wasn’t able to start getting the nursery ready until after we moved house which was when I was 35 weeks, so did not have much time but luckily I had already bought everything to design the room I wanted it.

My 3-year-old son was very excited about becoming a big brother, at first he didn’t understand what we meant but my partner and I took our son to the ultrasounds and explained about the baby growing in mummy’s tummy and after that, he always wanted to feel her kick in my tummy.

My tips for other parents is to go with the flow, don’t bubble wrap your kids. Stay relaxed and calm no matter what situation you are in. Trust me it helps their behaviour a lot. I also highly recommend going to see the MACH nurses for the developmental checkups and needles instead of a GP.

Stephanie from Little Grasshopper Photography was amazing! She captured beautiful photos and was so calm and kind to my son playing up and was very relaxed to encourage him to get into the family photos. We ended up ordering a digital photo package and they are amazing quality.

Stephanie is a lovely and kind photographer who takes amazing photos in your own home.

Having a photographer that you can relate to about kids being very active and not wanting their photo taken made the experience so much smoother than expected.

Amber is a big online shopper and has recommended the following stores to other mum’s to check out:

  • Becalm baby – they have awesome teething mits!
  • La Sienna Couture – beautiful gorgeous clothes for baby girls
  • Eat teeth sleep – amazing products for those topics!
  • Baby Bunting – they have everything 🙂 love to dream swaddles are my fav
  • That’s my blankie – personalised items from bibs to blankets to pram liners and more that has their name in them.
  • Made to Milk – has the tastiest lactation cookies I have found, so yummy!
  • Boowiggie – the cutest reusable swim nappies instead of buying disposables frequently. They suit from birth to 4 years old or whenever you toilet train your toddler. Any shop really that makes it easier to cope with a newborn, teething and starting solids phases 🙂
