Spring Session | Welcome to the Family | Three Months Old

I am sitting at my laptop, it’s a rainy Monday afternoon and Cooper, my son is playing noisily on the kitchen floor with pots and pans and I am trying to figure out how to set my email up on my desktop. I’m googling ‘what is a port?’ ‘what is imap?’ ‘how do i put my email on my computer?’ For a creative person, these things do not seem to come naturally.

Somehow though, I manage to make it work and after hitting refresh to load my inbox, a new email pops up from a client who I had completed their order session for over the weekend. Tears well up in my eyes as I read what she’s written about her experience and I am overwhelmed with gratitude and wonderment that I could achieve the things this kind woman is saying about my service and art.

I feel truly humbled to have been chosen to photograph this beautiful family and would love to share what she has written with you.

Photo sessions can be expensive.  They can be stressful.  And there can be a looming fear that after invoices are paid and the shoot is complete, images will not live up to our lofty dreams.  So it was with mixed anticipation and dread that my husband and I discussed having family photos taken after the birth of our first son.  I desperately wanted to capture this precious season of our lives but worried that our budget may force us to compromise on quality.

Enter, Stephanie from Little Grasshopper Photography.  She was recommended to us by a number of family members who spoke very highly of her and the images she created for them.  When we met Steph to arrange our pre-session consultation I knew we’d found our family photographer.  The consultation was a casual chat in our home, where we talked through the range of services available, price guides and ideas that my husband and I had for our session.  We valued the opportunity to get to know Steph a little and develop a rapport that would help us feel comfortable during the shoot.  I felt assured that her passion for natural photos, beautiful lighting and capturing relationships was just what we had been hoping for.

As a first time Mum, I desperately wanted someone to capture the love that our family shares – with me in front of the camera for a change.  But I was also nervous that I wouldn’t like what I looked like in the images.  Meeting Steph helped to alleviate my worries as I talked through my concerns and later sent through pics of our planned outfits.  Steph’s attention to detail throughout the process really stood out and I loved knowing that she cared deeply about making us feel comfortable.

On the day, our Little One was not in the best mood and I felt we were really up against it to capture some happy images.  But Steph worked her magic.  My husband and I chatted and played with our four month old, who was mesmerised by the lady following us with a camera.  Time flew and before we knew it, the session was over – pain free! We didn’t feel over-posed or strained, in actual fact I wondered if we had managed to give Steph much to work with at all.

After a super-fast turnaround, we attended our order session and were blown away by the gorgeous stories that Steph had woven together.  The photos were beautiful and light, showing the emotions and connections that I so badly wanted documented.  The gallery reveal was really special as we watched our fierce love for our son, our bond as husband and wife, and our unique family ‘vibe’ move across the screen.  Steph had captured small, intimate moments that we shared, some without us even realising.  Choosing our favourite images proved difficult as there were so many that we absolutely loved.  The different price ‘menus’ provided flexibility and allowed us to customise our collection – keeping in mind our budget and the ways that we wanted to use the images in our home.

Steph’s no-fee sessions mean we can have the luxury of regularly documenting our family as we grow and change.  As a young family, we also strongly appreciate the option to have multiple order sessions.  This will give us the opportunity to continue to save for images that we may not have been able to purchase initially.  We are so excited to display the beautiful narrative that Little Grasshopper Photography has captured – our unique and beautiful story.
