The best way to get better pictures of your kids is to get down with them. Be on their level! It’s very easy to fall into the habit of taking photos of them playing but from where you are standing, so often times you are going to get pictures of the tops of their heads.
Or if you get them to look up at you, you are distracting them from whatever it is they are playing with. Perhaps they have a confused look on their face as if they are saying ‘What? What do you want?”
Get down on their level.
Your photos will improve instantly the moment you get down with them. Getting low will easier interaction with your subject. You can engage with them, be silly, act like a clown and get those genuine smiles that we so very much love to see.
Get someone in the photo with them and allow them to interact with one another. Let them be natural, and allow them to forget you are even there taking pictures. While we love a beautiful portrait of our children or babies looking at the camera, it’s not always realistic, or as fun. Take your time, watch and capture their interactions and play for a truly magical photo.
Easy tips to remember:
- Get down on their level
- Interact with them, be a goof ball!
- Get someone else in the picture to play with them.
- Take natural photos, they don’t have to be looking at the camera.
